Steam ha subito un attacco hacker, ancora incerta l’entità degli eventuali danni
Anche Steam ha subito un attacco hacker. I pirati informatici, attraverso il forum della piattaforma online di Valve, sono riusciti ad accedere al database del negozio.
I fatti si riferiscono a domenica scorsa (6 novembre). Vista l’entià della notizia non potevamo non scriverlo anche perché ci potrebbero essere continui aggiornamenti sull’entità di eventuali danni. Allo stato attuale non si sa se si sia trattato di un’azione dimostrativa o se ci siano danni più o meno ingenti. La piattaforma, c’è da dire, continua a funzionare. Almeno chat e negozio.
DANNI ANCORA SCONOSCIUTI
- Non si conosce ancora l’entità dei danni. Quali dati siano stati trafugati ma (condizionale d’obbligo) pare che gli hacker abbiano avuto accesso a praticamente tutti i dati sensibili degli utenti sul forum e a diversi account di Steam stesso.
DATI PERSONALI POTREBBERO ESSERE COMPROMESSI
- C’è il forte rischio, però, che i numeri delle carte di credito ed altre informazioni personali (indirizzi mail, lista giochi ecc. ecc.), possano essere rubati. Le raccomandazioni in questi casi sono le solite: cambiare password di accesso e monitorare attentamente i movimenti della propria carta di credito.

- Vi proponiamo il messaggio apparso di scuse di Gabe Newell sul forum di Steam che è ancora chiuso per manutenzione. Il messaggio continua con un resoconto su quanto successo e sull’invito a cambiare password.
Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:
Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
